10. Li River
Get back to nature and take a bamboo raft ride down the scenic Li River in the southern province of Guangxi. The landscape is that of rolling hills, sharp cliffs, and small villages of farmers and fishermen.
9. Classical Gardens of Suzhou
Take the bullet train an hour west of Shanghai, and you’ll find Suzhou, a city of classical gardens and waterways, often referred to as the Venice of the Orient. The famed gardens date as far as the 6th Century, BC.
8. Yuyuan Garden
When you’re visiting the Bund in Shanghai, take a short walk to Yuyuan Garden. This is a classic Chinese garden, complete with picturesque pavilions, ponds, and bridges, including the famous Bridge of Nine Turns.

The Bund is the waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River in the city of Shanghai. In the Bund, you can see historic Shanghai merge with the city’s modern skyline. Walking through the Bund is a trip through architectural history with styles from different periods jutting against one another.

When you want to experience what some call paradise on Earth, travel to West Lake in Hangzhou, south of Shanghai. Surrounded on three sides by mountains, it is one of the most tranquil and romantic spots in all of China.

Travel to eastern China close to Shanghai and you’ll see the famed Yellow Mountains. These are perhaps the most famous mountains in all of China. Natives extoll its “five wonders,” in the form of breathtaking sunrises, mystical mists of clouds, stone spires, twisted pine trees, and hot springs.
4. Terracotta Army
The Terracotta Army in Xi’an is a unique collection of hundreds of life-size clay sculptures representing the warriors that helped form a united China under Emperor Qin. This amazing piece of work lay buried underground for more than two millennia until it was uncovered by farmers in 1974.
3. The Giant Pandas of Chengdu
China’s giant pandas are the country’s national treasure. The best place to view these playful and unique animals is the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, in the city of Chengdu. It’s home to more than 80 giant pandas and a number of red pandas, all of which you can see close up.

Located in the center of Beijing, the Forbidden City is the largest palace complex in the world. Surrounded by a 170-foot-wide moat, the ornate 8,000-room palace served as the imperial palace for 24 different emperors from 1368 to 1911.

The Great Wall is a remarkable architectural achievement built more than 2,300 years ago. It’s the longest wall in the world, running close to 3,100 miles from east to west, with the best-preserved sections near Beijing. Astronauts can see the Great Wall while orbiting the Earth.
